First aid items to bring on day hikes with kids

DON'T BE SCARED, BE PREPARED

One of the biggest reasons parents don't take their kids out hiking is their fear of "what if something happens?" And let me tell you. Something WILL happen. It's just a matter of when and are you prepared to handle it? I know I am, which is why I'm here to help you. So if you've ever felt hesitant or scared that your child will fall or get hurt in the outdoors, you're normal! And a good parent for caring. But instead of avoiding it, embrace it with the proper precautions.

WHAT I PACK IN OUR KIT

I always bring a small first aid kid along my hikes. I don't keep a complete kit because there would be no room for the snacks, jackets, water, and everything else you have to take when hiking with kids. But I take the necessities and keep a larger kit in the trunk of my car. That way if something major does happen, we have more supplies at the car (which usually isn't more than a mile or two away). Here's my list of what I bring in my packing kit:

  • Gauze Pads
  • Antiseptic Wipes
  • LOTS of Welly bandages
  • Tweezers
  • Pain Pills
  • Super Glue
  • Athletic Tape
  • Arnica Cream

I love using the Welly bandages because they actually stay on, are soft and breathable, and super stretchy and flexible! Plus, they come in super cute prints that my kids love. I store all this inside the Welly Bandage container which works out perfectly because its durable and small.

And that's it! Make sure to check out my other blog posts for more tips, advice, and inspiration to "get out there".
